ABOUT
ARTIST DESIGNER: MAKER
As an artist maker, I draw inspiration from nature and the environment, with influences taken from specific localities in Wales. I relish the sensorial beauty of nature and its impact on my wellbeing. I aim to express this in my glass landscape pieces by incorporating glass powders in a painterly manner, while the addition of cut glass layers creates texture, depth and perspective. My lighting is influenced by the way sunlight plays with the colour and translucent qualities of layered glass, enhancing the mesmerising beauty, displaying movement and form.
I bring together traditional crafts with a contemporary twist by combining the often fragility and delicacy of glass with the strength and solid structure of a hand turned wooden base. The materials I use are important to me, their sensory qualities dictate how they are to be worked with. My ethos of thoughtful making and no waste exists via the reuse of glass offcuts, and whenever possible, locally sourced sustainable native species of wood such as ash.
My making evokes an experience or memory and re-engagement with my surroundings creating an attachment to the piece.
